The Chennai born woman cinematographer and director of national repute, Fowzia learnt her craft and art in FTII Pune and taught the art of cinematography to her students at the famous SRFTI Calcutta. She is the first woman in this male dominant field.
She worked as an assistant Camerawoman to the famous cinematographer PC Ram in her early days and done many movies to her credit. Now that she has moved to her husband’s native, Trivandrum and doing lots of professional creative works in her chosen field of Malayalam cinema.
Films Gulmaal, mugavari and many other movies speak volumes about her talents.

The first woman cinematographer in the south who shot into fame with Revathi’s ‘Mitra - my friend’ movie made with the help of high tech women crews that won the National Film Award.
Fowzia is also a talented artist in the field of paintings, art history and photography.“I/Eye See Myself in You” a photographic
exhibition of hers was conducted recently at the Buddha Art Gallery in Fort Cochin.
The public response was so good that she intends to conduct one such event in Chennai soon. She is the founder of IWCC an association for Indian Women Cinematographers.
To everyone’s surprise,
Fowzia hails from the family of doctors.
Her father Dr.Syed Ansardeen is a senior radiologist of Madras Scan System and a close friend of mine. He visited to my residence recently with his family.
I wish her all success in her career and a bright future in life.
